About our White wines...

General:    White wines range from clear as water in color to a straw yellow. Green tinges are not unheard of, especially in younger wines. With time and oxidation, a golden color is common. A wide variety of fruit flavors are represented in white wines. Lychee nut, peaches, and tropical fruits are all common. Since white wine is made with minimal skin contact, there is almost no tannin associated with the grapes. There is tannin that results from oak aging, but this is much lighter than tannins associated with red wines.

The Chardonnay grape almost always tends toward light golden hues. The aromas of tropical fruits, melons, mineral qualities, citrus, and green apple are all common. Chardonnays are medium to heavy in body. Oak is used heavily in the wine making process, but it incorporates well into the wine.

Sauvignon Blanc is usually clear in color. The aroma of fresh cut grass is most common, as is grapefruit. Light to medium in body. Some oak is used in the wine making process, but it is rarely strong. Sauvignon Blanc is a very common variety, and can be an excellent food wine.

As is true with red blends, White Blends consist of several grape varieties, and taste complex, although this is not always obvious.

Semi-Sweet wines are light to medium bodied, and are invariable unwooded. Residual sugar makes these wines more "drinker friendly". Most are ready to drink on release, although some improve with one to two years' bottle-maturation.

Riesling grapes produce wine that is almost always clear, but becomes golden with age. These wines have a flowery aroma and are light to medium in body. Occasional light oak is often used in the wine making process, but the wines are often made sweet. Many Rieslings are among the finest, most complex wines in the world.
